Blatant Anti-Semitism

I am convinced that in the United States we have citizens who are so unintelligent, insular, and uninformed that they don’t know anti-Semitism when they see it or even participate in it. These people are either ignorant of or ignore 20th century history. Compared to the over sensitivity to racism and white supremacy, anti-Semitism goes unchallenged.

It appears on the right and on the left, probably for different reasons. I suspect there are some generational differences as well. The politics surrounding the state of Israel is the root of some of it. As the country becomes more secular, religious based hate might seem innocuous to the non-believer. Then of course there is the modern victim hierarchy where Jews don’t rate highly and as such do not receive the protections as say, Muslims. Christians don’t either but they are in no way a minority nor was their persecution in the 20th century anything like that of the Jews.

It would be telling to know how many people know of General Grant’s anti-Semitism or know who Judah Benjamin was. Maybe that is not fair since it is 19th century history. How about Jesse Jackson’s “Hymietown” in 1984 or Mel Gibson in 2006 with “…Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world”? Those are blatant. There is a school of thought that basic anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism and by extension many in Congress are guilty.

Woman On Twitter: I’m still in shock that people try to say that the Jews didn’t kill Jesus.

This Tweet was not a response to anything. Why bring it up unprompted? She responded that she was “not trying to hate on Jews” and that “people are trying to change what has been considered historically true for 2000 years.”

It is not clear to me that all anti-Zionism is anti-Semitic, but this dull woman is a clear example of an ugly anti-Semite. It is not even technically correct that the Jews killed Jesus. There is no good reason to even start a discussion like this other than to foster hate. She should be ashamed but is likely too convinced of her own righteousness to ever understand.
